The American company CRKT has released the new Freya Axe designed by Elmer Roush on the market. It is named after the Norse goddess of beauty, Freya, and features an American walnut wood handle and a detachable 1055HC steel blade. A contemporary axe inspired by Viking style.
1055HC Steel
The blade of this Freya Axe is made of 1055HC carbon steel, an alloy highly sought after in the world of cutlery due to its excellent quality-to-price ratio. Its composition provides this tool with one of the best steels for weapons that need to withstand high levels of stress while maintaining blade integrity.
Moreover, this type of steel offers great hardness thanks to its strong forging. Thus, this axe is perfect for tasks like splitting wood, maintaining all its properties and avoiding blade breakage. It provides suitable resistance for various environments, jobs, and situations.
Its specific composition is 0.48-0.55% carbon, 0.6-0.9% manganese, and a typical hardness between 60 and 64HRC.
Handle
The handle of this Freya Axe is constructed with American walnut wood. It is a material that withstands temperature changes and humidity levels very well. Thus, it is resistant to rot and attacks from insects such as moths.
One of the most significant aesthetic characteristics of this wood is its grain patterns, designs, and shades of brown. This finish gives this axe a very elegant and durable appearance over time.
